Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to play everything available on the market, and there are many I hope to try in the future that are not on this list. I have assembled a list below of my current favorite Kontakt instruments. But if you want access to the largest variety of 3rd party libraries you really need to get Kontakt. Check out my article “The Fundamentals of Sampling Instruments and Libraries” for information on samplers in general. If you choose to make your own sampling instruments these are great choices and are definitely more user friendly. There are of course many other options for sampling instruments and libraries including Sampler & Simpler from Ableton and Sampler (formerly EXS24) & Quick Sampler from Logic Pro.

Otherwise, the KONTAKT libraries will not be found during use.Kontakt, the sampling instrument from Native Instruments, is arguably the most used sampling platform on the market with hundreds of 3rd party sample libraries available.

Important note for Windows users: Make sure the external drive always gets the same letter assigned by Windows. Click BROWSE and navigate to the KONTAKT library folder to confirm it.Click the magnifying glass for the library you want to activate.

Once the KONTAKT software is installed, hover your mouse over the first available KONTAKT library.Go to the Native Access Not Installed page and click the option to install the KONTAKT software.Start Native Access and use the Preferences to set the Content location to the external hard drive where your KONTAKT libraries were installed.Alternatively, you can click INSTALL ALL near the top right. Go to the Native Access Not Installed page and click the option to install the KONTAKT libraries.Use the Native Access Preferences to set the Content location for your external hard drive.Otherwise, the KONTAKT libraries will not be found during use. Now both computers will recognize the KONTAKT Libraries installed on the external hard drive. Repeat these steps to add the remaining KONTAKT libraries from your external hard drive.Click the folder symbol and navigate to the KONTAKT library folder to Confirm it.Once the KONTAKT software is installed, scroll to the first available KONTAKT library and select Locate from the three dots menu.
Go to the Native Access Library > Available section and click the option to install the KONTAKT software.Start Native Access and use the Preferences to set the Content Location to the external hard drive where your KONTAKT Libraries were installed.Allow the installations to complete before proceeding to the next steps.Alternatively, you can click Install All near the top right. Go to the Native Access LIbrary > Available > Kontakt section and click the option to Install the KONTAKT libraries.Note: See this article to learn more about setting install locations in Native Access. Set the Content Location for your external hard drive.Once the installation is complete, open the Native Access Preferences.See this article to find a list of all KONTAKT libraries. Start Native Access and install the products one by one to your internal system drive except for the KONTAKT Libraries.
